CROYDON AREA BUS ROUTES TO BE REVISED TO PROVIDE FEEDER SERVICES FOR TRAMLINK |
Appendix: INDEX OF AFFECTED
BUS ROUTES
54 - 64 - 75 - 130 & X30 - 157 - 194 - 197 - 312 - 314 - 353
354 - 359 - 361 - 410 - 457 - 464 - 466 - 467 - 494 - 630 - 654
THE PROPOSED TRAMLINK BUS NETWORK ROUTE CHANGES ARE AS FOLLOWS:
ROUTE 54 (WOOLWICH - WEST CROYDON)
Route 54 would be shortened to run between Woolwich and Elmers
End Green. As the route would serve Beckenham town centre,
passengers travelling to or from Croydon would be provided with
faster journeys by interchanging with Tramlink at Beckenham
Junction tram station. For passengers travelling to intermediate
points between Elmers End Green and Croydon, route 289 would
maintain the local link between Elmers End Green and Woodside,
while new route 494 (see below) would replace route 54 along
Shirley Road. There would be no change to current frequencies on
route 54, but being a much shorter route, reliability should be
greatly improved. Buses would run every 12 minutes (20 minutes
evenings and haif~hourly early weekend mornings). Route 75 would
continue to provide a direct bus link for passengers wishing to
travel through between Croydon and Catford or Lewisham.
ROUTE 64 (THORNTON
HEATH POND - NEW ADDINGTON, SALCOT CRESCENT)
This route would be revised to run both ways along Montacute Road
in central New Addington, rather than using Parkway in the
northbound direction. This would improve access to the side roads
in the area. No other changes are proposed to the service.
ROUTE 75 (LEWISHAM
- WEST CROYDON)
This route would retain its current structure, but would be
increased in frequency throughout the route during the daytime on
Mondays to Saturdays, in order to maintain sufficient capacity
over the Anerley - Norwood Junction section, which would no
longer be served by route 157 (see below). At these times, the
frequency of route 75 would be increased from 15 to 12 minute
intervals. It would remain at 20 minute intervals at all other
times.
ROUTES 130 AND X30
(WEST CROYDON - NEW ADDINGTON, HOMESTEAD WAY)
This joint service, which would largely be superseded by the new
Tramtink line between New Addington and central Croydon, would be
withdrawn. In order to maintain the links currently provided
between Shirley and Addington, route 466 would be diverted at
Shirley Park to run to Addington Village (see below). Flows of
school children over the New Addington - Shirley corridor are
currently being reviewed, and appropriate service adjustruents on
other services would be made to ensure that the necessary
capacity was maintained at school travel times.
ROUTE 157 (MORDEN -
CRYSTAL PALACE)
Route 157 would be shortened to operate between Morden and
Norwood Junction at all times, which should improve its
reliability. The section between Norwood Junction and Crystal
Palace would transfer to route 197 (see below). The frequency of
the service would be enhanced from every 15 minutes to every 12
minutes during the daytime on Mondays to Saturdays with buses
every 20 minutes at all other times.
ROUTE 194 (WEST
CROYDON - FOREST HILL)
In view of the proposed diversion of route 466 away from Wickham
Road and Shirley Inn (see below), it is proposed to enhance the
frequency of route 194 at most times to compensate and to
maintain the required capacity along Wickham Road. During the
daytime on Mondays to Saturdays, the service would be increased
from a bus every 15 minutes to one every 12 minutes. In the
evenings a 20-minute service would replace the current half
hourly frequency. The current 20-minute service would remain
during the daytime on Sundays.
ROUTE 197 (NORWOOD
JUNCTION - CROYDON, KATHARINE STREET)
Route 197 would be extended from Norwood Junction to Crystal
Palace via Croydon Road and Anerley Road, replacing route 157
over this section. In Croydon, the route would continue to
terminate at Katharine Street. During Monday to Saturday daytime,
the frequency of this route would be reduced from a bus every
9-10 minutes to one every 12 minutes. This takes account of a
drop in the number of passengers carried, as many would be likely
to switch to the faster Tranilink service over the busiest
section of the route between Woodside and central Croydon. At
other times, the frequency would remain every 20 minutes.
ROUTE 312 (PECKHAM
- SOUTH CROYDON GARAGE)
There would be no change to the structure of this route,
but the frequency would be reduced during the daytime on Mondays
to Saturdays, as the current capacity is only required at the
Croydon end and many of these passengers are expected to switch
to Tramlink. A 12-minute
service would therefore replace the current 10-minute serivice at
these times, with buses continuing to run every 20 minutes at
other times.
ROUTE 314 (ELTHAM
STATION - NEW ADDINGTON, SALCOT CRESCENT)
In response to comments received during initial
discussions, it is proposed to retain route 314 running between
its current terminals at Eltham and New Addington. However,
following local requests, it is proposed to divert the route
between New Addington and Coney Hall so as to provide a new link
from New Addington to Spring Park and West Wicltham. The routeing
proposed would be from Salcot Crescent via Montacute Road, King
Henry's Drive, Lodge Lane, Addington Village Interchange,
Addington Village Road, Spout Hill, Shirley Church Road, Shirley
Way, Bridle Road, High Street and Glebe Way. This routeing is
dependent upon the London Borough of Croydon rnodifying the
current width restriction in Spout Hill to enable buses to gain
access to the area. Until the necessary agreement has been
reached and the road works are completed, the route would remain
on its existing routeing along Addington Road. It is also planned
to divert the route in Hayes between Bourne Vale and Bromley
South via Mead Way, Pickhurst Park, Barnliill Avenue and Cameron
Road to replace route 354 over this section and to give a daily,
all-day, service to the Hayesford Park Estate. Buses would no
longer serve the short southern section of Bourne Vale between
Pickhurst Lane and South Way. Routes 119 and 146 would continue
to serve Hayes Lane. A 20-minute service would continue to
operate during the daytime on Mondays to Saturdays, with buses
every half-hour in the evenings. A full Sunday service would be
introduced on route 314, instead of just running during the
middle of the day, with buses every 30 minutes (hourly early
Sunday mornings).
ROUTE 353
(ORPINGTON, RAMSDEN ESTATE - CROYDON, FAIRFIELD HALLS)
Route 353 would be withdrawn between Croydon and
Addingron Park, and diverted instead via Featherbed Lane and
Court Wood Lane to Forestdale, in place of route 354. It would
therefore run from Rarnsden Estate to Forestdale via Addington
Village Interchange, providing a feeder service to Tramlink for
Forestdale residents. Although Coombe Lane and Coombe Road would
no longer be served by buses as a result of the withdrawal of the
western part of route 353, Tramlink would instead provide the
service along these roads, serving all existing bus stops bar
one, the lightly used stop at Oaks Road. Route 353 would be
doubled in frequency at all times, providing a 15-minute service
during the daytime on Mondays to Saturdays, and half-hourly at
all other times. 55-capacity fuilly accessible, low floor, single
deck buses, with dual doors, would be introduced on the route.
ROUTE 354 (BROMLEY
NORTH - FORESTDALE - CROYDON, FAIRFIELD HALLS)
This route would be restructured to run from Addington
Village via Bardolph Avenue and Selsdon Vale to Croydon, with an
extension to West Croydon for improved interchange opportunities
in the town centre. It would no longer 'double run, to
Forestdale, as this section would be served by route 353. The
current section of the route between Addington Village and
Bromley would be covered by revised route 314 (see above). The
new structure would maintain the direct link with Croydon for
Selsdon Vale residents, and also act as a feeder service for
Tramlink at Addington Village, whilst maintaining the link with
Bromley through interchange with route 314. During Monday to
Saturday daytimes, buses would run every 12 minutes (and slightly
more often in the morning peak period on Mondays to Fridays),
with an increase from half-hourly to 20-minutes in the evenings.
A 20-minute service would replace the current hourly service on
Sundays. New fully accessible, low floor, single deck buses, with
55-passenger capacity, would also be introduced on this route.
ROUTE 359 (SELSDON,
FARLEY ROAD - FORESTDALE, COURTWOOD LANE)
In response to local suggestions, LT Buses is giving
consideration to re-routeing this service at Selsdon Park Road to
run via Kent Gate and Addington Village Interchange to New
Addington, instead of to Forestdale. The service would continue
to run at hourly intervals between the peak periods on Mondays to
Fridays and during the middle of the day on Saturdays.
ROUTE 361 (BROMLEY
NORTH - CRYSTAL PALACE)
This route would be shortened to run between Bromley
North and Norwood Junction. The section between Norwood Junction
and Crystal Palace would transfer to route 410 (see below). There
would be no change to the frequency of route 361, with buses
scheduled every half-hour (hourly evenings) on Mondays to
Saturdays.
ROUTE 410
(NORWOODJUNCTION-WALLINGTON, SHOTFIELD)
Route 410 would be extended from Norwood Junction to
Crystal Palace via South Nonvood Hill and Auckland Road,
replacing route 361 over this section. This would maintain the
links from South Norwood to Crystal Palace, and passengers from
the Auckland Road area would benefit from higher frequencies, a
Sunday service and a direct link to Croydon, which is their major
centre. Route 410 would continue to run every 15 minutes during
the daytime on Mondays to Saturdays and every haif-hour at all
other times.
NEW ROUTE 457 (NEW
ADD INGTON, VULCAN WAY - ADD INGTON VILLAGE)
The first of the new feeder links for New Addington, running at
the same frequencies as the Tramlink service, is provisionally
numbered 457. It would run from Vulcan Way to Addington Village
Interchange by way of King Henry's Drive, Homestead Way, Overbury
Crescent, Parkway, King Henry's Drive, Goldcrest Way, Headley
Drive, Merrow Way, Fieldway and Lodge Lane. A 6-7 minute service
would operate during the daytimes on Mondays to Saturdays, with
buses every 15 minutes at other times. New 55-passenger, fully
accessible, low floor, single deck buses would be used on this
route. Buses would provide timely connections with trams at tram
stops in New Addington.
ROUTE 464 (NEW ADD
INGTON, PARKWAY - TATS FIELD)
This route would be doubled in frequency and have a fill
evening service, and would be introduced on Sundays, to give a
half-hourly service at all times. In New Addington, it would stop
twice: near Addington High School, primanly for students
travelling to schools in the area from Biggin Hill, and at the
Parkway terminus, for easy interchang with Tramlink and other bus
services. Route 464 would use fully-accessible, low floor
40-capacity single deck buses.
ROUTE 466
(CATERHAM-ON-THE-HILL - CROYDON - SHIRLEY INN)
Route 466 would be diverted away from Wickham Road and Shirley
Inn (see route 194 above), and would be extended via Upper
Shirley Road to terminate at Addington Village Interchange. It
would replace route 130 over this section. There would be no
changes to present frequencies, with buses every 12 minutes (20
minutes evenings and Sundays, and every 30 minutes early Sunday
mornings). LT Buses is currently examining what school journeys
would be required in the area.
NEW ROUTE 467 (NEW
ADDINGTON, PARKWAY - ADDINGTON VILLAGE)
The second of the new Tramlink feeder services for New
Addington, provisionally numbered 467, would run from the new
Tranilink station in Parkway to Addington Village Interchange via
Central Parade, Arnhem Drive, King Henry's Drive, Goldcrest Way,
Headley Drive and Lodge Lane. Route 467 would operate at the same
frequencies, and with the same type of fully accessible vehicles,
as route 457. Buses would connect with trams at tram stops in New
Addington.
NEW ROUTE 494
(SHIRLEY, MONKS ORCHARD - WEST CROYDON)
This new route would be introduced to serve the section of
Shirley Road that would no longer be covered by route 54, to
serve the isolated Shirley Oaks estate and to provide new links
between Shirley and Lower Addiscombe Road that have been much
requested. It would run from Shirley, Monks Orchard via Wickham
Road, Shirley Oaks Road, Primrose Lane, Shirley Road, Lower
Addiscombe Road, St. James Road and Wellesley Road to West
Croydon. It would be operated by 50-passenger single-deck, fully
accessible low-floor buses, and would run every 20 minutes (30
minutes evenings, early Saturday mornings and all-day Sundays).
SCHOOLDAY ROUTE 630
(NEW ADDINGTON, HOMESTEAD WAY - CONEY HALL)
This route would be rerouted within New Addington, to better
match the routeings of the new Tramlink feeder services. It would
run from Salcot Crescent via Arnhem Drive, King Henry's Drive,
Goldcrest Way, Headley Drive, Merrow Way and Field Way. There
would be no changes to the frequency of the service, with one
journey to Coney Hall on schoolday mornings, with a return
journey to New Addington in the afternoons.
SCHOOLDAY ROUTE 654
(CROYDON, FAIRFIELD HALLS - GREEN STREET GREEN)
It is proposed to retain the ex:isting school journeys, but to
shorten them to run between Selsdon Crossroads and Orpington
only, which is more in accordance with the current use by school
students. Additionally, an extra morning journey would run from
Selidon Crossroads to Coney Hall, with an equivalent return
journey in the afternoon, to cater for schoolchildren currently
carried on route 354.
54 - 64 - 75 - 130 & X30 - 157 - 194 - 197 - 312 - 314 - 353
354 - 359 - 361 - 410 - 457 - 464 - 466 - 467 - 494 - 630 - 654
